The captain of the Cuban soccer team, the central defender Yenier Márquez, said that there is a "contagious optimism" in the team of being able to advance to the second round of the Gold Cup, in United States.
Undefeated Brazil won the grand finale. Brazil and Cuba were the two teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean that made it to the Grand Prix final round.
Cuba remained undefeated shutting out Mexico 4-0 on Sunday while the United States topped Panama 11-5, allowing both teams to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Cuba, the only unbeaten team. The winning teams get two direct entries into the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, six to the 2007 World Championship in Taipei and seven to the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro that year.
