Madrid, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) The Asturian people's solidarity with Cuba was stressed Monday by ambassador Alberto Velazco, after receiving the Nelson Mandela Award given by United Left of Asturias coordinator to the Latin American School of Medicine.
Velazco received this award in the Asturian capital of Oviedo, in recognition of the merit this school has reached in training medical students with low incomes.
The school arose from the need of training Central American physicians after the passing of hurricanes that devastated great part of the American continent in 1998.
Each year, the institution teaches almost 1,500 students from Central American and African countries, as well as some underprivileged people from the United States.
