The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) of New York has acquired a collection of the latest books published by the Cuban publishing house Vigía, based in the western Cuban province of Matanzas.
The books, acquired during the latest edition of the International Book Fair of Guadalajara, Mexico, will enlarge the museum's collections of texts from the Cuban publishing house.
The titles acquired by the museum include "Retazos" (Remnants) by Anna Lilia Vega, and "El Parloteo de las Sombras" (The Prattle of Shadows) by Damaris Calderón. Both books were designed by Rolando Estévez.
Founded nearly two decades ago, Vigía prints and illuminates books by hand.
The Cuban publishing house has printed books by prominent authors like Eliseo Diego, Miguel Barnet, Carilda Oliver Labra and Antón Arrufat, among other writers.
New York's Museum of Modern Art also owns artworks by Cuban painters Wifredo Lam and Alexis Leyva (KCHO).
