With images of Argentina-born revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara and Cuban president Fidel Castro, world renown photographer Rene Burri opens his largest exhibition ever Friday in Cuba.

The Swiss photographer told ACN that the showing at the Havana Fine Arts Museum is dedicated to Guevara on the 40th anniversary of his assassination. Burri said he was very happy to be back in Cuba, which to him is like returning home.

The collection is made up by 200 photos, objects, illustrated books and Che's portraits of the time when he was Cuba's Minister of Industry. Also among the works are images of artists like Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti and French photographer Henri Cartier Bresson, the founder of the well-known cooperative agency Magnum photos, to which Burri is a member.

The curator of the exhibit Michael Koezdle said the work of the Swiss artist break with the traditional art, while serving as testimony of important events of the 20th century.

Koezdle said Burri's photos reflect the artist's stance against war, and have a positive nature. He has never expressed his rejection of violent events by showing a dead body, said the curator.

Another exhibition by the same photographer will open Saturday at Cuba's Photographic Library, announced the center's director, Lourdes Socarras. It includes 50 photos shot by the Swiss photographer in the years 1963, 1974 and 1993 during his visits to the island.
