A new hip prosthesis is being used in hospitals throughout Cuba as part of a wide range of improvements being undertaken by the Cuba government in the Public HealthCare System.

Dr. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambra, president of the Cuban Medical Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, told AIN news that this new hip replacement technology has been brought to communities across the island. He said that a similar process will happen next year with knee replacement devices.
Dr. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambra, the general director of the Frank Pais International Orthopedic Clinic, also spoke about the benefits of arthroscopic techniques being used in the treatment of knees, hips, shoulder and sports related injuries.
"Cuba has set landmarks in orthopedic surgery, our school trains professionals from several Latin American and other foreign countries," said Alvarez Cambra. He pointed out that Cuba has been at the vanguard and a reference point to experts in this field, all over the world, including in developed countries.
Alvarez Cambra is presiding over the International Orthopedics and Traumatology Conference that begins today in Varadero with the participation of 300 delegates from ten countries.
