The audience was surprised not only by Orishas’s music, but also by the objective images of the real Cuba
L.A. critics described the performance by Cuban rap trio Orishas as "the only act that escaped from shameless commercialism by offering a really creative show without putting aside the dancing aspect.
Writers commented about the group’s performance at the Gibson Auditorium saying "they have good lyrics, excellent voices, outstanding though subtle choreography and an accomplished fusion of Afro-Cuban music and American hip hop."
La Opinion newspaper highlighted the contribution of the group to "Lo McXimo de la Musica" (Best of Music), a show that will be touring several cities of the US to promote new Latin talent of "urban musical culture."
The audience was surprised not only by Orishas’s music, but also by the objective images of the real Cuba shown during their performance. These images were far from the manipulations and clichés of the island which are usually presented by most of the major mass media.
The review was especially harsh on the very much publicized Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi. It said "although he had a good band, his songs were completely predictable and conventional. His voice was not as powerful and tuneful as expected in an artist of his reputation. This was especially noticed in his performance of Phil Collins’ song Against All Odds."
