Havana is considered by a large amount of experts the most important cultural plaza in Latin America and The Caribbean. Not only for being the scenario of important artistic and literary events throughout the whole year, but because Havana is source of inspiration of the most authentic creation, which can be equally appreciated by its inhabitants as well as foreign visitors.
Taking a quick look at the cultural scheduled of the capital every week: theater shows, in their most diverse genres of dance, plastic arts exhibitions, music and poetry gatherings, big artistic shows in hotels and specialized wards, discos for young and adults of any age, film premieres for children and adults.
There are the cultural projects, like that of tenement halls La California, or the Tambor ceremony offered to Obatalá in a famous alley of Centro Habana neighborhood, surrounded of paintings to Orishas gods of Yoruba pantheon; in both places come together hundreds of people integrated to these community programs.
On Saturday of La Rumba attracts dozens of followers of that Cuban rhythm to the gardens of National Folkloric Assemble, where they sing and dance accompanied by the musicians of the prestigious group.
Concerts of classic and popular music, like jazz, have their scenarios in the legendary theater Amadeo Roldán, in which the most important Cuban and foreigners musicians perform.
Those who like the bolero have their customary space at Hurón Azul, in the welcoming patio of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artists.
There are areas dedicated to children. Puppet shows in the National Puppet Theater of Cuba, at America theater, one of the most popular spaces in Havana, at Almendares Park. The National Circus, with its excellent shows presented by young artists trained in the schools of that extraordinary art.
Saturdays of Books held on the porch of the Cuban Institute of Book, in the ancient part of the capital, launches the last publications of Cuban editorial houses, besides the dozens of bookstores available with excellent titles for all ages and tastes.
Each municipality has at least a library storing the most important titles of universal literature with free entrance.
Culture Houses of Havana are also welcoming places where artistic and literary knowledge is acquired to those who approach them not only because they are encouraged by the thrill of becoming professional creators, but because the y also become solids critics of the artistic event.
Museums are also a good option. In the same ancient part of the city, an outdoor museum integrated to the city community, with its Palaces where general captains, governors, great big military staff of colonial times lived.
