Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Felipe Perez Roque has officially opened the up-to-date press center, where more than 1,000 national and foreign reporters will cover all the happenings of the 14th NAM Summit in Havana this week.
Perez Roque held a news conference to give information on organizational aspects of the Summit, at which are attending representatives of the 116 non-aligned nations (at least 50 of which will be Heads of State or Government), delegations from 31 countries and leaders from 23 different organizations, as well as UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
The press center is located in the Miramar Trade Center, and will accommodate the more than 800 foreign journalists who have special accreditation, and 150 correspondents from 106 foreign press media.
In addition, Cuban press media will have nearly 350 information professionals.
The center is equipped with modern telecommunication technology, 200 computers with access to Internet and more than 300 positions to accede to Internet from personal computers, as well as telephone services, fax, and photocopiers and scanners.
TV networks such as Al Jazzeera, CNN, NBC, CBS and Telesur, together with press agencies Prensa Latina, Reuters, AFP, EFE, AP, Xinhua and others, will have space and facilities as well.
