Cuba's Osleidys Menéndez, world record holder in javelin throwing, completed her competition schedule in 2006 due to a leg injury.
Cuban sports experts said that the outstanding athlete had a tibia injury in her left leg, so she cannot train at full capacity.
The experts said that if she follows the doctors' treatment to the letter, she might resume training this year.
Menéndez hopes to compete in the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2007, one of Cuba's major challenges next year.
The Cuban javelin thrower set a world record at the World Championship in Helsinki in 2005, when she threw the javelin 71.70 meters away.
