Bermuda awoke Thursday to rain and 60 mph winds as Tropical Storm Harvey brushed the island in its east-northeasterly path.
The eighth named Atlantic tropical storm was about 340 miles east of Bermuda at 5 a.m. EDT Friday, moving at 9 mph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami reported. Tropical storm force winds extended outward up to 115 miles.
Early Thursday, officials in Bermuda downgraded a hurricane warning to a tropical storm watch. However, U.S. forecasters said some strengthening was possible after the storm glanced the island.
On its current track, Harvey does not pose a threat to the U.S. mainland, CNN reported.
Tuesday, government experts revised their hurricane forecast upward, saying they expect three to five more major hurricanes in the final four months of the hurricane season.
