Eastern Granma province has 187 pre-Columbus archeological sites discovered by local experts.
The researchers' work has allowed discovering a large number of aboriginal sites over the past five years, since only 26 archeological sites had been found in the 1990's.
According to experts from the local archeological office, among the sites where artifacts from aboriginal communities have been found, 114 are prior to the so-called agri-pottery period.
Each of those sites, they added, has been carefully recorded, including its name, discoverer and state of preservation, among other information of interest.
The results of archeological work in Granma province were expounded during a workshop on cultural heritage, at which a score of papers on the protection of archeological sites, among other topics, were presented.
