Vacationers Interest in Cayo Jutía Grows

Tourists from France, Italy and Germany, among other countries, are regular visitors at the key's white-sanded beaches.

The key is a safe haven for several species of endemic birds, including hawks, woodpeckers and hummingbirds.

The key's main attraction is the lighthouse, which was built more than 100 years ago, is one of the oldest in the country, and has made great contributions to safe navigation in the region.

The mangrove swamp on the north coast of the key is characterized by evergreen forests of Indian mulberry (Morinda citrifolia) and timber trees, while grass and bushes grow in the sandy coast.

Cayo Jutía is accessed through a causeway that connects the islet with mainland.
