Successful Specialized Medical Care in Cuba
According to experts, during the first year of operation of intensive care units in the province's 13 municipalities, good results were reported in providing rapid medical care to patients who needed that kind of treatment.
Emergency treatments are part of a group of programs that have consolidated in 2004, including the inauguration of seven rehabilitation facilities.
In addition, a nephrology ward opened in Sagua la Grande municipality to provide specialized care to patients suffering from acute kidney failure who need hemodialysis treatment on a regular basis.
From January to November 2004, surgeons performed 1,000 surgeries more than during the same period last year.
Besides, the Ernesto Guevara Heart Center is expected to conclude 2004 with 700 surgeries, a record in the center's history, and a survival rate of 96 percent.
