Robert Rodriguez Films Story by Author of Daredevil
According to Rodriguez’s press release on Friday, it was very hard for him to convince the author to allow a screen version of the novel, because the writer feared he would not be faithful to the original.
¿In order to adapt the two-dimensional black and white world of Miller, full of tough guys wearing rain coats and rascals hidden in the alleys, I thought I had to make full use of digital technology,¿ the director of Desperado and Once Upon a Time In Mexico stated.
The film is based on three comic books of Sin City by Miller. The worlds of the writer are "dark and extravagantly ultra-violent," Rodriguez added.
Frank Miller is famous among comic readers for his series Elektra and Daredevil, starring Jennifer Gardner and Ben Affleck respectively in the screen versions.
When it comes to adapting material, it is very difficult to get something with the quality of The Silence of the Lambs, because one usually finishes with something like Catwoman, which only used the title and disregarded the material it came from, Miller said.
Rodriguez, who also directed Spy Kids and From Dusk Till Dawn, identified strongly with Miller’s ideas.
Sin City stars Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro, Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson.
The entire film was shot with a green screen as background, which means the only real things involved are the objects the actors touch or the cars they drive. The rest was subsequently introduced using digital special effects.
