The company has exceeded this year's production plan and is working to increase production during the remain of the year.

The capture goes to markets in the provinces of Granma, Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín and the City of Havana.

Capture, which includes tench, claria and red tilapia, has been carried out in the province's nine major reservoirs, which can hold up to one billion cubic meters of water.

According to experts, fish farming is the fastest-developed field of aquiculture in Cuba, and is aimed at producing freshwater fish using different methods.

That activity is linked to authorities' strategy to increase supplies of high-protein, low-cost food to the people.
