Mollusks species discovered to the North of Camaguey provinc
The characteristics of the finding was proved during the present phase of analysis of samples from the marine environmental monitoring that was finished this month by specialists from the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment ( CITMA )
Jose Espinosa Saez head of the research project assured that the four species belonging to the family Marginellidae and to the prosobranquid
(carnivores ) of higher evolution, are still without a scientific name.
The mollusks collected are small, the have a brilliant shell of a cream color and almost transparent, and according to the criteria of the specialists they may be endemic in the area where they were found, according to Espinosa.
The scientist stated that the finding of two of the new species happened at a coral plateu in waters near Sabinal Key, part of the Sabana - Camaguey archipelago, and the rest were found at Santa Lucia beach.
Dr. Jose Espinosa is a researcher at the Cuban Institute of Oceanology of the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
