Meliá Cayo Santa María Hotel Receives Environmental Certific
The hotel, the first of its kind in Cuba to receive such certificate from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, does not use those kinds of substances, which affect the ozone layer.
The award is aimed at encouraging production centers and companies to take measures that will gradually contribute to eliminating those kinds of gases.
Chlorofluorocarbons include chlorine, bromine, Freon, and other gases used in refrigeration systems, air-conditioning equipment and fire extinguishers.
Several projects, assisted by various agencies of the United Nations System, have been carried out in the country over the past few years to eliminate substances that affect the ozone layer.
In this strategy, tourism facilities play a major role due to their location in areas where they are closely linked with the environment.
