Matanzas Reports Good Results in Tourism
According to local tourism authorities, in January and February 2004, revenues increased by 16 percent compared to the same period last year. In addition, profits grew by 23 percent during the said period.
Varadero, the province's major beach resort, received an average of 22,000 guests a day and set a record of 24,037 guests in the resort's hotels on February 18.
Experts pointed out that the hotel occupancy rate has remained above 90 percent so far in March, adding that they expect an increase in tourist arrivals during the Holy Week in April.
