Large Investments in Tourist Zone of Samaná
Tourism authorities pointed out that the government would contribute 15 million dollars, while the rest will come from the private sector.
The public funds will be used to build a waste-treating plant, while the private capital will be spent to remodel two hotels.
In addition, the money will boost the first regular cruise season, scheduled for December.
The capital will complement an investment announced by the London-based group Buy Bonus LTD, which will spend 100 million dollars to build a tourist complex.
The 1,000-room complex will cover an area of 400,000 square meters and will provide a wide range of offers for couples only.
Tourism is the main hard-currency earner in the Dominican Republic, contributing up to 24 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
