Havana Holds Breath as Hurricane Ivan Approaches
According to forecast models, the meteor could hit western and central part of Cuba in the next 30 hours.
In the meantime, locals are keeping an eye on weather forecasts and closely following the National Civil Defense guidelines, aware of the fierce nature of a storm that so far has killed more than 40 people and caused considerable damages in some Caribbean countries.
During a TV appearance last night, Cuban President . . assessed possible impact on Cuba, saying there is real danger for the country and stressing the importance of keeping the population abreast of the storm"s path at all times.
Ivan, which has now reached category 4 in the Saffir-Simpson scale of five, is considered as one of the most dangerous hurricanes to hit Cuba in the last five decades, and therefore no efforts have been spared, including the evacuation of over 444,000 people.
The hurricane is moving on a west by northwest course, at 9.3 miles per hour.
