During the first semester of 2004, the province was visited by 420,000 foreign vacationers, mainly in the beach resort of Varadero.

Varadero, Cuba's major beach destination, has a hotel infrastructure of more than 14,000 rooms.

Varadero also boasts the 64-hectare Las Américas Golf Course (with 18 holes, practice courses, a club house and caddy services), the International Parachuting Center and a carting track.

Add 22 kilometers of excellent beaches and a wide variety of corals in its beautiful sea bottoms, an excellent attraction for diving enthusiasts.

Local tourism authorities are also fostering the leisure industry in places such as Ciénaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), and the cities of Matanzas and Cárdenas.
