Film Exhibition Honors Cuban Moviemaker
The exhibition, entitled "Titón el Immortal" (Titón the Immortal), was sponsored by the Provincial Film Center to honor the prominent artist, who is considered one of the best moviemakers in Latin America.
Feature-length films such as "Las Doce Sillas" (The Twelve Chairs), "La Muerte de un Burócrata" (Death of a Bureaucrat) and "Memorias del Subdesarrollo" (Memories of Underdevelopment) are proof of the talent of the Cuban filmmaker and scriptwriter, who died in Havana on April 16, 1996.
Other films by Titón are "Los Sobrevivientes" (The Survivors), "La Ultima Cena" (The Last Supper) and "Fresa y Chocolate" (Strawberry and Chocolate). The latter was nominated for an Oscar award and was co-directed by Juan Carlos Tabío, with whom Titón also shot his last film in 1995, "Guantanamera".
The film exhibition was part of a series of activities to celebrate the day of Cuban Culture in the province.
