Excellent Recreational Option in the Cuban Capital
According to experts, the park, which covers an area of 700 hectares and is crossed by Almendares River, is a sort of natural lung of the city.
Precisely, at the Almendares Park, which includes the Parque Metropolitano and the final section of the Almendares River, some 4,000 people meet on weekends to enjoy a wide range of recreational activities.
They also enjoy the park's abundant vegetation, whose deterioration due to indiscriminate cutting during previous decades was stopped as a result of a series of rehabilitation programs implemented by local authorities.
Havana's Gran Parque Metropolitano is also part of the Almendares-Vento hydrographic basin, which contributes 47 percent of the water consumed in the Cuban capital.
