Authorities from the sector pointed out that preliminary statistics show that exports totaled 90 million dollars, a record for the industry.

The iron and steel industry has a large portfolio of offers, including different kinds of steels, electric and telephone cables, containers and batteries.

The sector involves 126 companies and 30,000 workers, and its main projects were the renovation of hospitals, polyclinics and lodging facilities, and construction of rehabilitation wards and schools.

Productions from the iron and steel industry mainly go to such sectors as tourism, basic, sugar and food industries, transportation, communications, agriculture and fishing.
