Cuba's Image Transmission Network Extended
Health institutions in nine provinces are involved in the IMAGIS project, carried out by experts from the Medical Biophysics Center. The program allows sending, receiving, storing and printing the results of multiple tests to submit them to experts for a more accurate diagnosis.
Electronic mail is used to exchange images from nuclear medicine tests, ultrasound screening, X ray scans, computerized axial tomography, magnetic resonance and angiography, among other techniques.
The experts pointed out that the network enables doctors to store images in compact and floppy disks, and to access information on Intranet and interhospital networks.
IMAGIS will also be the digital support for a broader project that includes research and training of human resources.
The extension of the service will involve students and professors from the University of Computer Sciences and the company SOFTEL, both in Havana.
