Cuban Biotechnology Center Receives Quality Certification
According to experts, BIOCEN now qualifies as the first Cuban institute in the biotechnological sector to receive that quality certification, which takes into consideration stricter requirements than the ISO 9002 certification granted to the center in 1994.
BIOCEN has reported good results in technological transference to its facilities to produce recombinant streptokinase, a drug used to treat patients suffering from myocardial heart attacks and strokes.
Recombinant streptokinase, 60,000 doses of which were produced last year, is distributed to hospital all over the country, although the goal is to take that drug to all polyclinics on the Caribbean Island.
In addition, BIOCEN is producing about a hundred culturing means for public health institutions and other centers in the health sector.
