Cuban Apiculture Growth Promoted
According to experts, among the initiatives recently implemented are the construction of a honey-processing plant, the modernization of a similar factory in Santi Spiritus, and the introduction of new technologies.
Among the latest technologies introduced in the sector is a machine to produce wax sheets, which are essential for the construction of beehives.
Production is estimated at nearly 9,000 tons of honey this year, compared to 7,200 tons in 2003.
In addition, a new production record might be set by 2005, breaking the 1983 mark of 10,200 tons of honey.
Experts said that in order to achieve that goal, more beehives must be built, since the country's capacity is 200,000 beehives, and only 144,000 are producing honey at present.
