Cuba Works on Vaccine against Cholera
Experts from the National Scientific Research Center pointed out that the experimental phase of clinical trials concluded in South Africa.
In that regard, they pointed out that they have analyzed various parameters of immune response by stem 638 to epidemic stems existing in South Africa.
The specialists said that positive results have allowed them to predict that a single vaccine candidate can be enough to protect humans from an epidemic of cholera.
They added that conditions exist to begin clinical trials in volunteers in 2005, so they will present a joint research project.
The experts recalled that although no cases of cholera have been reported in Cuba, the vaccine will benefit developing countries with high incidence of the disease.
