Cuba Seeks to Replace Javier Sotomayor
Cuban experts said that five young athletes – including four men – have excellent conditions to join the world high jump elite.
Two of the new prospects are Lysvanys Pérez, who jumped over 2.28 meters twice in 2004, and Víctor Moya, whose personal record is 2.26 meters and has participated in international competitions.
The two other men are Yunier Carrillo (2.25 meters) and Daylen Ortega (2.23 meters). The latter has excellent conditions to have a successful sports career.
Only Yarianmis Aguilera stands out among the women, with a personal record of 1.89 meters and a bronze medal at the Pan-American Games in the Dominican Republic.
Cuban coaches said that two of them might qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, in 2008
