Cuba Promotes Natural Medicine
According to local health authorities, the establishment produces 32 medicines made of active substances found in medicinal plants.
The medications, which have been approved by the Ministry of Public Health, include tincture of camomile, and syrups of copal, red mangrove and oregano.
Ten researchers from the University of Granma work in the laboratory and 30 experts from scientific institutions in the province and the rest of the country render their collaboration.
They are currently carrying out two projects: one that has been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and another one approved by the local branch of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
The center's main lines of work include the identification of medicinal plants, experimental assessment of their pharmacological and toxicological properties, and the search for new pharmaceutical products.
