Cuba Improves Citrus Quality for Export
Recently, the management system of the Empresa Industrial de Cítricos de Contramaestre, in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, was certified with the ISO 9001/2001 standard.
That way, experts said, the company will have better opportunities to commercialize its product in Europe, where it exports concentrated juices and essential oils of orange, grapefruit and tangerine.
The average efficiency rate is one ton of juice from every 10.24 tons of fruit, which is harvested in eastern Cuba mainly.
Since its inauguration five years ago, the company has produced 30,000 tons of juice and 815 tons of essential oils, which are mainly used in the food, medical-pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
The company is also involved in ecological harvests, which add more value to its produce and increases demand from Europe.
