Cuba Hosts Children's Film Festival
According to sources from the organizing committee, more than 260 films from 18 countries, including 190 cartoons and 41 documentaries, will be exhibited during the festival.
The event will be attended by US intellectual Julie Belafonte as the president of honor, and guests will include Cuban moviemaker Juan Padrón, the creator of the character of Elpidio Valdés and the film "Vampiros en La Habana" (Vampires in Havana), and Carlos Alberto Cremata, director of the children's theater group "La Colmenita".
From Latin America, Argentina (45 films), Mexico (13) and Uruguay (10) top the list of participants at the competition, while Europe is represented by Germany (15) and Spain (14), among other countries.
The five-member jury will include Jo-Anne Blouin, director of the International Center of Film for Children and Young People of Montreal, Canada, and María Elena Ordóñez, director of the Arcandina Executive Foundation of Ecuador.
Other jury members are Carmen Lloret Ferrandis (Spain), Iraida Malberty (Cuba) and Paco Prats (Cuba), who will chose a film in each category in competition (cartoon, fiction and documentary).
