Cuba to Host International Meeting on Apiculture
Sources from the organizing committee pointed out that the event, which will be held at the same time as the 1st Cuban Congress on Apiculture, will be sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Food Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), among other organizations.
Both meetings will be attended by scientists, technicians and major honey producers, who will debate on the characteristics of the industry.
The plenary sessions will deal with the handling and exploitation of beehives, flora and pollination, apitherapy, apicultural pathology and economics, genetics and quality management, and production of organic honey.
The meeting will be held at a favorable time for Cuba, which produced 7,200 tons of bee honey last year, the largest production in a decade.
Out of that total, Cuba exported 6,500 tons, mainly to Europe, one of the major honey consumers in the world.
