Cuba Boosts Production of Ecological Honey

According to experts, ecological honey is highly quoted in the international market, where the price of a ton is above 2,500 dollars.

The ecological certification is granted to a kind of food or agricultural produce that is obtained without using chemicals or a complex industrial process, so it is declared clean and healthier.

International standardization agencies have certified the honey produced in a score of municipalities in eastern Cuba.

Other producers is working to have their honey certified as ecological in a medium term, so 65 percent of the region's total output will receive that category.

Granma and Santiago de Cuba provinces have made great contributions to the country's economy by having a large part of production certified as ecological.
