Cuba adopts flood contingencies
Camaguey Gov. Jesus Garcia, chief of Civil Defense in that province, told press municipal command structures and economic organizations have been mobilized to prepare to rapidly evacuate people and animals.
Parts of Cuba have been suffering severe drought, but since May 16, rain has increased considerably in eastern Cuba, irrigating crops, but also causing flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
While the dams in Camaguey Province, due to the drought, are at 32 percent of capacity, Santiago de Cuba´s reservoirs are at 98 percent and local authorities have taken the necessary measures to protect people and goods.
