Bodegas del Caribe Bets on Cuban Wine

The firm, an association between the Cuban company Cítricos Caribe and Spain's Palacio de Arganza, is cultivating several hectares of land where the first grapes growing in Cuban soil will be harvested soon.

The project was kicked off with the introduction of 19 varieties of grape from the Spanish region of El Bierzo, of which four varieties were chosen to create the first stocks.

Plans include expanding the cultivated area to several hundreds of hectares in the Havana municipalities of Batabanó, Banao and El Wajay.

Bodegas del Caribe recently presented its brand Castillo del Wajay, which is made from Cuban grapes. The next harvest will be used to create the brand Marqués de La Habana.

Wine production in Cuba also contributes to expand the presence in the domestic market of an expensive product in the international market.
