Awards for Children's Books in Cuba
In the short story category, the award went to Maykel Casabuena with "La Orden de los Tíos" (The Uncles' Order), while in the novel category, the winner was María Elvira Fernández with "Lipidia el Hada Cascarrabias" (Lipidia the Grumpy Fairy).
The jury in the short story category, made up of authors Francisco López Sacha, Ernesto Pérez Chang and Mirtha González, decided to grant a first mention to Enrique Pérez Díaz with "Los Gatos de Papel" (The Paper Cats).
José Manuel Espino Ortega won the award in Poetry with "Alí Babá y las Cuarenta Ilusiones" (Ali Baba and the Forty Illusions). The poetry jury, made up of Edel Morales, Sigfredo Ariel and Esteban Llorach, granted a mention to Alberto Rodríguez Copa with "Como lo Cuento Aquí Yo" (As I Am Telling You Here).
In the Scientific-Technical Promotion category, the winner was Liliana María Gómez Luna with "Cuentan que en una Bahía" (Once upon a Time in a Bay). Mentions were granted to Félix Guerra Pulido and Omar Gutiérrez Horta.
Sources from the Cuban Book Institute noted that more than 100 works were presented in this edition of the contest.
